Silver jewelry in Nepal

Sterling silver rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings from our workshop in Bhaktapur, most of them handcrafted and set with stones, delivered anywhere in Nepal.

Handmade silver jewelry from Bhaktapur

Most of our silver pieces are handcrafted at the bench in Bhaktapur; a few are cast from a mould and finished by hand. The listing for each piece tells you which, names the stone, and usually gives an approximate weight.

The same metal reads two ways. Polished, sterling silver is close to a mirror. Oxidized, it darkens into the recesses and makes fine detail stand out. Many of our pieces use both on one surface.

What sterling silver means

Fine silver on its own is too soft to hold a stone or keep its shape. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper; the copper is what makes it hard enough to wear every day. It is the standard for silver jewelry, and it is what all of our silver pieces are made of.

Caring for silver jewelry

  • Silver reacts with sulphur in the air and slowly dulls. That tarnish is a surface film, not damage, and a silver polishing cloth brings the shine back.
  • To slow tarnish, store it dry and away from air, for example in a small zip bag, and take it off before swimming or bathing and before putting on perfume or lotion.
